Culture & Heritage

The soul of a nation lives in its culture. For the United Kingdoms of Tikar (UKT), this begins with our origin story, the Tikar people. Our ancestors built kingdoms of wisdom, courage, and resilience, leaving behind traditions, languages, and values that carried us through centuries of trials. Though colonialism and slavery attempted to erase our identity, our culture survived in our dances, our councils, our rituals, and even across the ocean, where descendants of Tikar blood rise as world changers today.

We must preserve this heritage because it is more than memory. It is proof of our sovereignty, a foundation for our unity, and the guiding spirit for the future we are building. Nations without roots vanish; nations that guard their heritage endure.

At the core of our cultural policy is the protection and promotion of indigenous traditions. From the wisdom of traditional councils to the rhythms of dances, proverbs, and rituals, every kingdom, tribe, and lineage in UKT holds its rightful place in the national story. Chiefs, elders, and cultural custodians are not relics; they are respected partners in governance, mediation, and social cohesion.

Our languages are national treasures. UKT is committed to preserving and revitalizing native tongues such as Lamnso, Ngemba, Meta, Kom, and many others, alongside the continued use of English and Pidgin as common languages of unity. Language is more than communication; it is memory, worldview, and power. To lose a language is to lose a world.

Festivals and cultural celebrations are essential to our identity. From harvest festivals and coronations to modern art expos and literary events, UKT supports cultural expression as a driver of tourism, economic growth, and intergenerational dialogue. Public spaces will be created where music, dance, cuisine, and storytelling thrive.

The National Archives and Heritage Commission safeguards our story. Through the collection and digitization of oral histories, colonial records, treaties, photographs, artworks, and manuscripts, we ensure that future generations know where we come from, and why our freedom matters.

As a nation rooted in the Tikar heritage and forged through resilience, UKT’s culture embodies both resistance and renaissance. We honor the ancient and the modern, the sacred and the everyday, shaping a people who know themselves deeply and walk confidently into the future.

Culture is not what we’ve left behind. It is what carries us forward.
